CALL FOR PAPER

DEADLINE EXTENSION: UNTIL JUNE 30th, 2022

We are pleased to announce the 1st International Seminar on Discourse and Gender (DISGEN1) which will be held as an in-person event between the 27-28th of October, 2022. The theme is Discourses of Gendered Violence. DISGEN1 intends to bring together young and experienced researchers from Europe and further afield to share and build knowledge on the interlockings of this triad.

The interdisciplinary nature of this seminar aims at providing an up-to-the-minute snapshot of current scholarship on the subject area. Thus, we invite contributions spanning areas such as –but not limited to– applied linguistics, criminology, cultural studies, sociology,  media and the law. As the event is rooted in an intersectional feminist understanding of gendered violence, we also especially welcome non-cisgender, non-heterosexual and non-white discursive approaches to the theme.

The following topics are specifically emphasised. However, we are happy to consider abstracts on topics not listed below:

  • Intimate Partner Violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Violence Against Women
  • Domestic Violence
  • Coercive Control
  • Online Grooming
  • Hate Speech
  • Online media
  • Legal discourses of gendered violence
  • Forensic linguistics
  • Symbolic  violence
  • Sexual abuse

Organised panels:

  1. Critical Discourse Analysis and multimodality
  2. Interdisciplinary perspectives
  3. Methods and approaches
  4. Historical and cultural approaches

*Panels are provisional and dependent on accepted talks.
